Following Jesus together in community.
Membership at Genesis
Why become a member?
Membership at Genesis is a formal commitment to walk alongside others in faith, service, and shared ministry as part of the Body of Christ.
Scripture describes the church through two primary metaphors: family and body. In these word-pictures, people are born into the Family of God and baptized into the Body of Christ. One reflects the work of the Spirit, drawing a person to faith so that they are “born from above,” as Jesus described to Nicodemus in John 3:3–8. The other reflects the work of the church, carrying out Jesus’ commission to baptize “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” in Matthew 28:19.
At Genesis, we believe all who profess faith in Jesus Christ are brothers and sisters in God’s multi-ethnic Family and members of the universal Body of Christ. Our church is one local expression of that larger family and beautiful body.
The Apostle Paul used the body metaphor to describe how a healthy faith community should function. Just as the parts of a body exist in relationship to one another, a local church is made up of self-giving people committed to one another’s good. Membership is a formal expression of that commitment — a choice to enter into relationship with other believers for mutual encouragement, spiritual formation, and shared ministry.
Through Spirit-guided commitment to community, we are formed in the life of faith and participate in God’s purpose for placing us in relationship with one another.
Genesis members also have a voice in the leadership of the church. Each year, members may nominate another member to serve a three-year term as an Elder, helping shape who provides spiritual leadership and governance for our congregation.
Discipleship
Over Membership
You don’t have to become a member to belong here.
We believe spiritual growth, meaningful relationships, and serving others matter more than simply having your name on a membership roll. You are welcome to worship, participate, serve, and grow with us whether or not you choose to become a member.
Formal membership is primarily for those who are ready to make an intentional commitment to this local church. Membership is required for nominating or serving as an Elder and for certain other major leadership roles.
